Lingering Lemongrass

This essential oil is simply delightful!  Who doesn’t love the fresh clean scent of lemon?  This is a sturdy grass that can be grown easily in the garden.   It is widely used in ethnic dishes.  The herb is a main ingredient in  “lemonade” that I make for the Summer months.  Even though we here in the U.S. frown on consuming essential oils internally the folk from the “old country” use lemongrass a drop at a time in their afternoon tea rituals (as my English Nana used to say “a nice cuppa tea”).   I like to have a “sniffer” on my desk to sharpen my mind when writing.  After wafting a swig or two in front of my nose my attention is squarely focused!  Lemongrass is said to stimulate psychic centers, which makes sense to me in that it seems like psychic persons pay attention more than others.   In the kitchen it can be used to flavor ice cream and liqueurs (to top ice cream).  A dot on the wood cutting board will fight bacteria.  This oil is primarily used as an inhalant.  It’s not one of those wonderful bathing oils.  Use it sparingly especially if you are using it as an astringent for oily skin.
